3-hour, hands-on session 
(MITC, METC, IL-TEC, STAR, SL, IBEA)

Is the concept of Virtual Learning Environments new to you? Are you ready to take the plunge into blogs, wikis, forums, chat, online assessment and other Web 2.0 tools. Attend this session to learn the basics of how Moodle-based virtual learning environments can be used to support traditional instruction by easily integrating collaborative tools. You will be provided free access to your own virtual classroom for a year. Time will be devoted to getting your virtual classroom up and running. Bring your class list with you!

Explore all of the best K-6 math tools the web has to offer! From basic addition to geometry and fractions, from virtual manipulates to interactive games, from online calculators and converters to graphing tools. You will leave this session with resources for every math topic you teach. A laptop would be beneficial in this session, but not necessary.

(Minimize Arithmetic Teaching Headaches with Free, Awesome Cool Tools for Students)
2 or 3 hour session
(SL, STAR-WIU, STAR-ASHS)

Explore all of the best K-8 math tools the web has to offer! From basic addition to geometry and fractions, from virtual manipulates to interactive games, from online calculators and converters to graphing tools. Build your own Moodle-based virtual math classroom that incorporates online, interactive, engaging resources that address curriculum standards and meets the needs of your students. In addition, we will provide you with a ready-made virtual classroom for teaching those pesky math facts!


Teaching Digital Natives to Read
3 hour session

Many of today's students are not engaged or motivated by what is offered by traditional classrooms. Learning does not take place in the absence of engagement and motivation. Technology meets diverse student needs and increases engagement and motivation of all students. Discover Internet resources and technology applications that address the National Reading Panel recommendations in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Build a Moodle-based virtual reading classroom that incorporates online, interactive resources that address curriculum standards and meet the needs of your students. You will leave this session with a virtual reading classroom filled with interactive, engaging resources.

Today’s educators must utilize technology’s power to improve student reading ability as mandated by NCLB. Technology meets diverse student needs and increases motivation of all students. This workshop will introduce you to Internet resources and technology tools that address the National Reading Panel recommendations in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The tools of “the read-write web” will dramatically impact education as we know it. Attend this session to learn how virtual learning environments, such as Moodle, can be used to not only support reading and writing, but to empower students and create exciting new learning opportunities. A laptop would be beneficial in this session, but not necessary.
 

You Mean I Am Supposed to Teach Science, Too?
 (SL)

In 2008, expanded MAP testing begins in Science. The grade-span tests will be administered in Grades 5, 8, and 11. With the push to meet AYP in communication arts and math, many teachers have been forced to skimp on science instruction. Are you in need of resources to help prepare your students for the upcoming Science MAP tests? Attend this session to discover online science tools and resources that have been aligned with the GLEs. A laptop would be beneficial in this session, but not necessary.
